Oxidized Bitumen 105/35
General Description
Oxidized bitumen 105/35 (blown bitumen 105/35 or R105/35) is a hard/solid grade of oxidized bitumen. This grade is produced under special conditions, controlled and monitored temperature, pressure and reactor feet. Raw material for this grade is penetration bitumen 60/70. By passing pure penetration bitumen through continuously blown highly heated air, oxidized bitumen 105/35 is obtained.
Two numbers classify this grade of blown bitumen, the first number is softening point, and the second number is needle penetration which are 105 °C and 35 desi-millimeter, respectively. R105/35 has wide usage in numerous industries like construction, coating, sealing, automotive, etc.
Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 105/35
Oxidized Bitumen 105/35 that is known as blown bitumen 105/35 (or R105/35) is named due to its softening point and needle penetration (R(SP)/(NP)). These tests are done based on the ASTM international test method and ASTM D36 and ASTM D5 are used for softening point and needle penetration measurement, respectively.
Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 105/35
Oxidized Bitumen 105/35 manufactured in PUB-LTD gets a higher rubbery property due to oxidation procedure compared to the previous grades. Because of this special property, it can be used in various industries with different performances. R105/35 is used in civil engineering, construction, fuel (combination with fuel), road operations, crack sealing, road repairing, roofing, flooring, coating, protecting pipelines and metal structures from corrosion as a special paint, as an anti-dust component and waterproofing agent, in dust proofing, insulation and sealing buildings, and as an adhesive. Furthermore, it is used in sensitive industries like petroleum operations, for coating oil and gas pipelines, as a carriage sealant and sound proofing material in cars in the automotive industry, in extreme weather conditions (very hot or very cold). Moreover, its combination with gilsonite can maintain asphalt stability and durability to prevent deformation and cracking due to changing climates.
Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 105/35
Heating bitumen in most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230 ℃. All oxidized bitumen is not hazardous below 100 ℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be controlled. Inappropriate heat transfer can cause overheating and release low flash vapors and these unwanted side products cause a higher fire risk. Moreover, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because it can cause overheating and needs more potential energy. Furthermore, placement and installing of any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices is very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the real temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
