Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 - Globally Bitumen

Oxidized Bitumen 85/40

General Description

Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 (Blown Bitumen R85/40) is a semi-solid grade of blown bitumen category and it is produced using pure Penetration Bitumen 60/70. The word oxidized in Oxidized Bitumen refers to how bitumen is transformed from its normal soft state to an aerated state. One of the most important usages of this product is in the construction industry because of its special technical properties.

Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 85/40

Oxidized Bitumen R85/40 has a softening point between 80 and 90℃ and has a degree of penetration equal to 40 desi-millimeter. ASTM international test methods are used to assess these results, For instance, its softening property is measured with the ring and ball method, which is described in ASTM D36.

Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 85/40

Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 (Blown Bitumen 85/40 or R85/40) is used in various industries for different purposes. Some of these industries are the chemical industry, construction, paint and asphalt mixture production, flooring, Oxidized Bitumen 85/40 is also used in roofing and coating of buildings, production of photographic paper and pulp paper. in civil engineering, hydraulic operations, for crack sealing and road construction, in asphalt-based pavements, different bituminous products, and special bitumen-based paints that are used to protect pipes and fixtures from corrosion, as an insulating agent, as a sound reducer or sound proofing component, for waterproofing, and dust proofing, etc. Also, its use as a component in fuel is very common.

Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 85/40

Heating Bitumen for most final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃. All Oxidized Bitumen is risk-free at below 100℃ during shipping operations. For maintaining proper flow and discharge of Blown Bitumen 85/40 from the boiler needs potential energy and heat. Heating and heat transfer should be perfectly controlled. Without proper heat control, heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors and unwanted side products that have a higher fire risk. Moreover, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to cool down. Because this can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the real temperature, which will lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
